Nassau Cruise Port Marks Fifth Year of International Coastal Cleanup

Nassau Cruise Port (NCP), in collaboration with the Bahamas National Trust (BNT), continued its annual commitment to International Coastal Cleanup Day with a cleanup at Bonefish Pond National Park, where approximately 2,100 pounds of waste was removed.

The September 11 cleanup brought together 30 participants, including NCP team members and representatives from Grupo Anderson’s and Port Nassau Excursions, both valued members of the Nassau Cruise Port community. The event marked the fifth consecutive year that NCP has participated in International Coastal Cleanup activities since first joining the global initiative in 2022. NCP was also the first Global Ports Holding port to participate, with the initiative expanding across the wider GPH network in 2025.

Bonefish Pond National Park is a protected wetland area in New Providence, where mangrove ecosystems provide critical habitat for marine and bird life while contributing to the health and resilience of the island’s coastline.

This year’s cleanup formed part of NCP’s ongoing “It’s in Our Hands” campaign and reflected the global 2026 theme, “Protecting Our Oceans, Uniting for Cleaner Shores.” Volunteers collected, sorted, weighed, and recorded debris throughout the park, helping to protect the sensitive coastal ecosystem while contributing to broader efforts to understand and address marine pollution.

The activity also builds on Nassau Cruise Port’s three-year, $75,000 partnership with the Bahamas National Trust, supporting its work to protect and preserve The Bahamas’ natural environment. The participation of Grupo Anderson’s team members further reflected NCP’s goal of bringing the wider port community together around shared environmental responsibility and encouraging tenants and partners to play an active role in destination stewardship.

With approximately 2,100 pounds of waste removed by 30 participants, this year’s cleanup demonstrated the impact that coordinated local action can achieve. Nassau Cruise Port extends its appreciation to the Bahamas National Trust, Grupo Anderson’s, Port Nassau Excursions, and all volunteers who contributed to the initiative.

As NCP marks its fifth consecutive year of participation, the port remains committed to supporting cleaner coastlines, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future for The Bahamas.
