Blue Green Bahamas Visitor Awareness Initiative

Nassau Cruise Port (NCP) and the Bahamas National Trust (BNT) have a three-year strategic partnership to strengthen environmental stewardship and community engagement in The Bahamas.

Through the agreement, Nassau Cruise Port is a member of the BNT Corporate Partnership Program as a Steward Level Partner, pledging $75,000 over three years to support conservation initiatives and public awareness programs that highlight the importance of protecting the nation’s natural resources.

A major focus is the Blue Green Bahamas: Visitor Awareness Initiative, designed to educate cruise visitors and residents about the country’s unique ecosystems and encourage responsible environmental behavior.

Cruisin’ Green

Cruisin’ Green is a waste management program focused on promoting sustainable practices and reducing waste throughout the port in alignment with our broader commitment to environmental sustainability and protecting our marine ecosystems. Through this initiative, NCP will engage tenants, vendors, employees, cruise lines, cruise passengers, and local visitors in creating a cleaner, greener environment by collecting and sorting cardboard, aluminum cans, glass, and paper products.

Nassau Cruise Port is committed to minimizing its environmental impact and playing a key role in promoting a more sustainable and eco-friendly future within the cruise industry and throughout The Bahamas.

International Coastal Clean Up Day

Nassau Cruise Port (NCP) continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability, going beyond International Coastal Cleanup Day to protect the natural beauty of The Bahamas.

This event is just one example of NCP’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. In July 2023, the port launched the “It’s in Our Hands” Environmental Sustainability Program to raise awareness and promote responsible environmental practices. This program includes initiatives like an environmental awareness social media campaign, encouraging Bahamians to express their views on environmental protection through photography, along with educational workshops. The cruise port also sponsors and supports the work of organizations championing environmental protection, awareness and education such as The Bahamas National Trust.

Furthermore, NCP takes an active role in maintaining the cleanliness of Nassau Harbour. The port’s Security and Health, Safety and Environment teams conduct regular patrols, removing trash and debris from the water.

It’s In Our Hands

Preserving the natural beauty of The Bahamas for future generations of Bahamians, cruise passengers, and visitors to enjoy is at the forefront of how we manage our business.

We have incorporated various sustainability features into the design of our facility and our daily operations. Here are a few highlights of our environmentally-friendly activities that affirm our commitment to keeping our environment clean, blue, green, and pristine:

We incorporated the following eco-friendly elements into our $300 million redevelopment effort:

  • Production of 1 MW of Solar Power to support local power provider distribution
  • Full facility LED lighting
  • Low water usage factored into all buildings and facilities
  • Full facility recycling
  • Incorporation of new green space into the downtown area

In June 2022, we launched our environmental sustainability brand, “It’s in our Hands,” to ensure that we strategically incorporate environmental management into our operations and to promote environmental awareness in our community.

  • We introduced three hybrid-powered trams to the port to transport passengers to and from cruise ships
  • Our 25-foot boat, Pier Pressure, collects and removes garbage from the harbour daily and to searches for environmental hazards so that they can be mitigated or reduced as quickly as possible
