In celebration of Women's History Month, Nassau Cruise Port (NCP) joined forces with the Dignified Girl Project and Pharmasea for an impactful donation to empower women and girls. This collaboration resulted in the distribution of 300 essential hygiene product “dignity kits” and a financial contribution of $1,500 to local organizations.
The feminine hygiene products – sanitary pads, panty liners, and soap – were donated to The Bahamas Crisis Centre, Ranfurly Home for Children, PACE Bahamas, and the Public Health Authority. NCP staff members packed the dignity kits and wrote encouraging messages for recipients, demonstrating their commitment to supporting women's health.
However, the initiative extended beyond product donations. The Bahamas Crisis Centre, Ranfurly Home for Children, and PACE Bahamas each received an additional $500 to further support their vital services.
Maya Nottage, Marketing Director at Nassau Cruise Port, discussed the event and the successful partnerships.
"At Nassau Cruise Port, more than half of our staff members are women, so giving back to the community, particularly in ways that empower women and girls, is particularly important to us," Nottage said. "The last thing that women should have to worry about is whether or not they can afford basic necessities like feminine hygiene products, so we are proud to partner with the Dignified Girl Project and Pharmasea to ensure these items reach those who need them most. By working together, we can do so much to improve the lives of women in The Bahamas, which benefits families and our entire community. This is just the beginning.”
Phillipa Dean, Founder and Executive Director of The Dignified Girl Project, explained the importance of their organization's work and these partnerships.
"The Dignified Girl Project exists to ensure that girls and women have access to basic needs for their menstrual cycle while also educating and advocating for girls and women to know their bodies and the products they use," Dean said. "This partnership with Nassau Cruise Port signifies the importance of accessibility for people who need these feminine products the most. Through this initiative, we were able to impact four major organizations that cater to the most vulnerable in our society. Work such as this shows why meaningful partnerships are paramount. Thank you to Nassau Cruise Port for thinking of us and allowing us to be a part of something wonderful. I am excited to see how else we can work together to impact communities."
