Nassau, Bahamas – Nassau Cruise Port (NCP) continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability, going beyond International Coastal Cleanup Day to protect the natural beauty of The Bahamas.
On September 21st, 2023, NCP marked International Coastal Cleanup Day with a dedicated effort at Montague Beach. Students and teachers from St. Anne’s School’s Eco Club and L. W. Young Junior High School joined the NCP team to remove 13 bags of garbage, including large debris, from the shoreline.
"Participating in this event was incredibly rewarding," said Yeshantai Thompson, Health and Safety manager at NCP. "It’s inspiring to see our community, especially young students, come together to make a tangible impact. This year was particularly significant as we celebrated four decades of global coastal cleanups, and we are proud to contribute to this legacy.”
This event is just one example of NCP's ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. In July 2023, the port launched the “It’s in Our Hands” Environmental Sustainability Program to raise awareness and promote responsible environmental practices. This program includes initiatives like an environmental awareness social media campaign, encouraging Bahamians to express their views on environmental protection through photography, along with educational workshops. The cruise port also sponsors and supports the work of organizations championing environmental protection, awareness and education such as The Bahamas National Trust.
Furthermore, NCP takes an active role in maintaining the cleanliness of Nassau Harbour. The port’s Security and Health, Safety and Environment teams conduct regular patrols, removing trash and debris from the water.
These initiatives highlight Nassau Cruise Port's dedication to preserving the natural beauty of The Bahamas for future generations. By engaging the community, promoting sustainable practices, and taking direct action, NCP sets a positive example for environmental stewardship in the cruise industry.
