The Queen’s Staircase

Frequently referred to as “The 66 Steps” and located a five-minute drive and 13-minute walk from The Port is The Queen's Staircase. This staircase was chiseled out of solid limestone between 1793 and 1794 by slaves and connects Fort Fincastle to Downtown Nassau. The staircase has been named in honor of Queen Victoria who reigned in Britain from 1827 to 1901, a lengthy 64 years. If you count them, you will see that there are only 65 steps visible today. Asphalt paving of the pathway leading to The Queen's Staircase has led to the bottom stair being buried. Beautiful foliage surrounds The Queen's Staircase adding to the peaceful and enchanting atmosphere. The natural limestone rock creates a shaded, cool and serene environment worthy of photographing.
